WHY CHOOSE SENSORY PLAY?
As a preschool parent or teacher, you already know that little ones learn best when they can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste…that is, when they use their five senses. And that’s what sensory play is all about!
Unfortunately, most kids don’t have the same opportunities for sensory play as we did when we were growing up. Preschool schedules are jam-packed with standards to teach, and parents are overwhelmed & overworked…adding one more thing to an already overflowing plate seems impossible!
But…if there’s one thing you should try to incorporate as often as you can, even in your busy schedule, it’s sensory play! The amount of learning your little one will do with sensory play will be worth your time, I promise!
We love to incorporate sensory bins into our weekly routine. We also change them depending on the theme, and this simple sensory bin idea is perfect for Easter!

EASTER SENSORY BIN
It’s time for your little one to use their imaginations and pretend a bin of black beans is actually soil. Then they can add these FREE carrot letters and play Feed the Bunny!
First, you’re going to want to prepare the bunny box. The directions for making the bunny box (including the bunny face template) are included in the FREE download (which is at the end of this post).
If you don’t have a square box to make the bunny, no worries! You could use a brown lunch bag, bowl, or nothing at all…just print out the bunny face and pretend to feed it. It’s still a fun activity!

Next, cut out the carrots, place them in the “soil.” This leads to fun imaginative play!
Last, you’ll want to have your little ones feed the carrots to the bunny! (Each carrot has a letter and a picture on it.)
You can use this activity in a few different ways, depending on your students’ skill levels:
- ask your students to feed the bunny a certain letter
- ask your students to feed the bunny a certain letter sound
- have your students mark off the letter they feed the bunny on their check-off sheet
- cut the carrots in half and have your students match the letter to the correct picture before feeding the pieces to the bunny
This activity (along with all of our freebies!) can be downloaded from the Free Activity Library. If you’re already a member of our email community, you can click HERE to head to the Free Activity Library, enter your password (it’s on your most current email from me), and download your copy!
