WINTER THEME IN PRESCHOOL
Winter is such a fun time in preschool. Many teachers use this time to focus on Arctic animals like polar bears and Arctic foxes, while others like to to teach about Antarctic animals (penguins are my favorite!)
No matter how you incorporate winter into your classroom, there are so many fun winter books & winter activities that are sure to engage your little learners.
And the most magical winter activity of all?
A snow sensory bin!

DIY FAKE SNOW SENSORY BIN
There are many different ways to make a snow sensory bin. I have used instant snow before, which is a lot of fun (and so easy to make!)
But if you don’t have any instant snow (and don’t want to buy some), or you just want to try something different this year, you have to check out this DIY Fake Snow recipe!
DIY FAKE SNOW RECIPE
All you need for this fake snow recipe are two ingredients, which you probably already have at home:
- First, measure out 2 1/2 cups of baking soda into a large bin.
- Next, add in 1/2 cup of white conditioner.
- Last, mix it all up, and you have the best-smelling & silky-smooth fake snow around!
I love how easy this fake snow recipe is! Having your preschooler make this with you is a great way for them to practice scooping & measuring. Plus they’ll be amazed to see the transformation of two separate ingredients into snow!
I also love how this fake snow smells! It’s important to remember that sensory play doesn’t just involve the sense of touch…adding a strong scent to sensory play increases the engagement and learning!
We added some gems, mini-erasers, animals, and scoops to our bin. We also included snowmen & snowflake cookie cutters!
Just a warning: this bin can get a little messy! So make sure you lay down a towel or mat before having your little one dive in.
