KINDERGARTEN READINESS
As parents and teachers of preschoolers, one of the things we hear over and over again is “kindergarten readiness.” We want to prepare our little ones for kindergarten so they can be successful & thrive, but we’re not exactly sure what that means.
Should they know all of their letters and sounds?
Should be they be writing their name or other words?
Should they be reading independently?
If you search Pinterest or Google, all of the posts can feel a bit overwhelming…especially since there’s no one way to be “kindergarten ready.”
After researching the Arizona Early Learning Standards, I created these FREE pre-k goals printables to help parents and preschool teachers know EXACTLY what to focus on before sending our little ones off to kindergarten.
THE ARIZONA EARLY LEARNING STANDARDS
The Arizona Early Learning Standards cover eight main areas:
- Social Emotional
- Approaches to Learning
- Language & Literacy
- Math
- Science
- Social Studies
- Physical Development, Health, & Safety
- Fine Arts
Every early childhood educator will tell you that the MOST important skills preschoolers needs to develop before kindergarten are the nonacademic skills. And I’m in full agreement!
Teaching our preschoolers to be self-aware, recognize & express their feelings, and regulate their emotions is key to success in kindergarten and beyond.
I also love the emphasis on a growth mindset, which teaches kids to be persistent, tenacious, and to never give up when learning a new skill (because they will be learning LOTS of new skills in kindergarten!)
With that said, I know parents and teachers also need a tangible list of academic skills to focus on in pre-k in each of the different subject areas.
When we set our preschoolers up with a strong foundation for learning, they will flourish in kindergarten!
So I created a resource that will give you a roadmap for BOTH the academic and nonacademic skills which should be focused on in preschool.
PRE-K GOALS PRINTABLES
These free pre-k goals printables are great for a quick reference for parents and teachers to use when planning activities. There are 8 pages (one for each area listed in the Arizona Early Learning Standards), and each page has 20 goals.
All of these goals are taken directly from the Arizona Early Learning Standards, and they’re what I use to plan curriculum for my classes.
