FAIRY TALE BOOKS FOR PRESCHOOL
Yummy: Lucy Cousins has written a delightful treasury of fairy tales! With so many tales to choose from, you and your little one will love reading these! Little Red, 3 Billy Goats Gruff, 3 Little Pigs, and MORE are all tales included in this amazing book!
Hansel and Gretel: A classic tale with amazing illustrations…but with a twist! Hansel and Gretel show quick thinking and smarts in this version! You will want to read it again and again, but just a head’s up, it’s a tad bit mature.
Hansel and Gretel: Here’s a question for you…were Hansel and Gretel actually good?! Bethan Woollvin reimagines Hansel and Gretel from Willow the Witch’s perspective, and it’s sure to entertain your littles!
It’s Not Hansel and Gretel: This book is a hilarious spin on Hansel and Gretel (or Gretel and Hansel, as Gretel likes to say). It is a great read aloud simply because the storyline is so engaging! This was a HIT with both my kindergartener AND my 5th grader!
Jack and the Beanstalk: This version of Jack and the Beanstalk has full-page illustrations that look very realistic. Although it retells the classic fairy tale, it’s a bit long and might not be ideal for one read aloud time (it might need to be broken up or just used to show the illustrations).
Jack and the Beanstalk and the French Fries: Your little one will LOVE the twist on this fairy tale, especially if they like French fries! A great spin that will make your little one laugh out loud!
The Three Billy Goats Gruff: Cunning, evil, and hilarity makes The Three Billy Goats Gruff a delightful read! The troll is most definitely in for a surprise!
The Three Billy Goats Gruff (Mac Barnett): This troll is not very cunning, or fun, or handsome (though he thinks he is). This tale is silly, repetitive, and fun…unlike the troll!
Goldilocks and the 3 Dinosaurs: Mo Willems, author of the Pigeon book series and the Elephant & Piggie book series, has put his hilarious spin on this classic fairy tale. Three dinosaurs just happened to be visiting from Norway, and they just happened to leave their house and were *definitely not* waiting for an unsuspecting child to enter. (Spoiler alert, they were!) If your little one looks closely, they might even see Pigeon in the illustrations!
Goldilocks and the 3 Bears: Who knew a shortcut could be so awful? When a really naughty little girl wanders into a bear house, the result is hilarity and a catastrophe (and a lot of cleanup!)
Goldilocks and Just One Bear: With silly fonts, amazing art, and a lost bear, Goldilocks switches places with Baby Bear (who’s not a baby anymore!) His cluelessness makes for a hilarious read.
Goldenlocks and the Three Pirates: When the mama pirate makes some too-hot gruel, the pirate trio turns into a quartet! This is an amazing pirate-themed Goldilocks that your little one will love.
Goldy Luck and the 3 Pandas: Can bad luck be turned into good luck? With kindness and helpfulness, this book reminds us that we all have bad days, but you should still be kind!
The Little Red Fort: A delightful spin on The Little Red Hen, The Little Red Fort is a tale that encourages creativity! This book is ideal for read alouds since it has colorful illustrations and is not too long.
The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza): If your little one loves pizza, they’re sure to love this twist on the classic fairy tale. Instead of baking bread, the Little Red hen wants pizza instead, but her friends aren’t willing to help her.
The Little Red Hen: The Little Red Hen is truly an exemplification of hard work paying off! You and your little one will love Byron Barton’s version of this tale.
The Little Red Hen: Paul Galdone’s The Little Red Hen is truly a delight to read, with beautiful illustrations and an important moral.
FAIRY TALE BOOKS FOR PRESCHOOL
Mighty Red Riding Hood: Leroy LeRouge loves his riding hood, but the wolf sure doesn’t! Read this tale about standing up for what you like, and you’ll be sure to close it feeling more empowered than ever!
It’s Not Little Red Riding Hood: No wolf? No woodsman? Little Red wearing BLUE?! This book is utterly crazy and silly at the same time, with the perfect amount of the original fairy tale to create an excellent book! It’s also perfect for read alouds.
Little Red and the Big Bad Editor: This book is not only a spin on Little Red Riding Hood, but it also helps kids with their writing skills! Finger spaces, capital letters, and writing a friendly letter are some of the writing skills shared in this book!
Little Red and the Very Hungry Lion: In this spin on the classic tale, the lion learns a lesson through Little Red’s own unique way. This story encourages creativity and quick thinking!
Ninja Red Riding Hood: A spin on Little Red Riding Hood, this is a tale your little one will love! Kids will love the ninja element, and adults will love the girl power theme.
Pretty Salma: This is an African twist on Little Red Riding Hood. When a scrawny dog wants to get pampered, he tricks Salma…until she tricks him right back! This story ends in such a hilarious way that you won’t want to put it down!
Little Red: The big bad wolf is no match for an ax-wielding Little Red in this version of the classic fairy tale. This is a wonderfully-illustrated book that has quite a different ending than the original.
Little Red Riding Hood and the Misread Wolf: A bookworm Little Red sets off to deliver a special book to her Grandma, but the bookworm wolf gets there first! This book celebrates books, which your little one will love!
Little Red Riding Hood and the Dragon: Maybe this dragon shouldn’t have eaten quite so much! When Little Red and her Nainai get swallowed, Little Red uses the contents of his stomach against him! Your little one will laugh and most definitely be enthralled at this version of the classic tale.
Little Red and the Cat Who Loved Cake: This is a unique and hilarious wordless picture book that your little one will adore! It’s perfectly understandable even for the littlest kids! Wordless picture books are great for working on comprehension skills without having to focus on the words.
The Great Gram Plan: When a superpig costume for the third little pig doesn’t go as planned, he might not be able to stop the wolf’s top secret plot! This fractured fairy tale is a combination of The 3 Little Pigs and The Little Red Hen, and it’s a true delight to read!
The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig: The Big Bad Pig is hungry, and he’s not afraid to use dynamite, sledgehammers, and drills to get dinner! Kids will laugh, and so will you in this hilarious little book!
The Three Little Superpigs: Once Upon a Time: A superhero-tastic spin on The Three Little Pigs, this book calls out to the superhero in everyone! In this story, the superpigs are able to save Fairland from the big bad wolf (who ends up in prison). A delightful read aloud, this tale boasts an amazing plot!
The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs: This will get your little one laughing as Alexander T. Wolf shares his side of the classic tale The 3 Little Pigs. This story is perfect for a read aloud because of its engaging storyline and fun plot!
It’s Not The Three Little Pigs: Since when is the FIRST little pig the builder? Since when does the third little pig live in a pumpkin? SINCE WHEN IS THERE A FOURTH LITTLE PIG??!! Since now! It’s Not The Three Little Pigs is a hilarious tale that will have your little one laughing for hours!
The Three Little Guinea Pigs: Some people have never heard of guinea pigs, but they’re the adorable heroes of this story! They’re resourceful, brave, and the reason this story is so loveable!
The Three Little Javelinas: A Southwestern spin on The Three Little Pigs, this book is equal parts fairytale and traditional tale. Plus it inserts cool facts about the desert everywhere!
The Three Little Pigs: Paul Galdone’s version of this classic fairytale, highlights courage, smarts, and not taking shortcuts in life. What a great lesson for all of our little ones!
