Check out this fun and engaging Thanksgiving game for preschool. You can use this game to practice numbers, letter names, letter sounds, sight words, shapes, colors, and more!
NOVEMBER IN PRESCHOOL
November is such a fun month in preschool. I love to use fall, turkey, and Thanksgiving-themed activities to encourage my students to learn through play.
There are also so many great books to read, plus I like to encourage an attitude of gratitude in my students (and my own kids at home, too!). That’s a lot to pack into a short month!
One of my favorite Thanksgiving games to play with my preschoolers in November is called Find the Turkey. This game is awesome because it can be adapted to focus on whichever skills you’re working on…letter names, letter sounds, sight words, numbers, shapes, colors, and more!
This game can be played at home with your own little one or in a classroom with a group of students. It’s easily adaptable to be whatever you need it to be!
FIND THE TURKEY GAME
Here’s What You’ll Need:
- Bag (we taped a sponge-painted turkey to the front to make it more fun)
- Cards with the skill you’re working on (numbers, letters, shapes, etc.). We used these FREE turkey number cards (you can download them below!)
- Blank turkey cards
Here’s How You Play:
1. Put all of the cards in a bag, and then add a few blank turkey cards.
2. Have students take turns picking a card from the bag. When they pull out a card, have them say the name of the number, letter, sight word, etc.
3. If they pull out a blank turkey card, then they dance around and sing The Turkey Day Song (written by my daughter when she was 6 and sung to the tune of Jingle Bells):
Turkey Day, Turkey Day
Turkey Day Hooray!
Gobble gobble till you wobble
It’s the greatest daaaay!
Turkey Day, Turkey Day
Turkey Day Hooray!
Gobble gobble till you wobble
It’s the greatest day!
My students had an absolute blast with this game, especially singing The Turkey Day Song…they all wanted to pull out the blank turkey! I can’t wait to use it again to practice other skills.

FIND THE TURKEY SENSORY BIN
You can also modify this game to use with a sensory bin instead. One fun idea for November is corn. We added unpopped corn kernels to our sensory bin, then added in number cards and blank turkeys & played the game the same way. You can read more about our Thanksgiving sensory bin in this post.
