When I was little, I always loved completing word searches! I loved feeling like a detective and finding hidden words in the sea of letters…and now my daughter is the same way!
When I was teaching 1st and 2nd grade, I loved having word searches available for fast finishers. I made different word searches according to our theme, and my students always made sure to choose them after they completed their work!
Benefits of Word Searches
Word searches may seem simple, but they are great for little learners because they:
- help develop word recognition
- help develop pattern recognition
- introduce and review vocabulary
- review spelling patterns
- and are super FUN!
Word searches are also great to take on the go! You can take them into restaurants or doctor’s offices for your little one to complete while you’re waiting, or pack them for long plane rides (I know adults who buy word search books to take on long trips, too!)
