THE IMPORTANCE OF SENSORY PLAY
Sensory bins are such an important part of early childhood education. The amount of learning that little ones experience through sensory play cannot be overstated! In the words of Fred Rogers, “Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children, play is serious learning.”
Setting up sensory bins to go along with each holiday is a great way to change things up, spark some imagination & creativity, and get your little learners playing!

ST. PATRICK’S DAY SENSORY BIN
For our St. Patrick’s Day sensory bin, I decided to use a classic filler that is relatively inexpensive and great to use over and over again…black beans! I added festive shamrock foam stickers, which add some sparkle and really pop against the black background. You could also add gold coins, small pots, or other festive objects & watch your little ones explore!
Then I added in this FREE letter sounds activity. Students will match the picture on the pot of gold to the correct letter rainbow to practice beginning letter sounds. This is a fun, hands-on way to practice those crucial phonics skills that all of our students need to master before learning how to read.
This activity is designed for preschool, pre-k, and kindergarten students. It can be used at home with your own littles or in your early childhood classroom.
