GIRAFFES CAN’T DANCE BOOK ACTIVITIES
These preschool & pre-k book-inspired activities are perfect to use after you read Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. (Book is not included in your purchase). They can be used at home or in your early childhood classroom. Each activity comes in both color and black/white.
The activities in this pack include:
LITERACY: Hard G vs. Soft G: Introduce the fact that the letter Gg can spell two sounds: /g/ like gorilla and /j/ like giraffe. Your little one will sort pictures based on the first sound they hear in the word. They can also write the words on their recording sheet and/or do a cut & paste sort. Includes 10 picture cards for the sort, 1 cut and paste activity, and an anchor chart explaining the difference between Hard G and Soft G.
MATH: Shape Spinner & Graph: Have your little one practice 2D shapes by spinning the spinner and recording their answer on the corresponding bar graph. See which shape gets to the top first! Includes 2 spinners & 2 graphs (each practice 4 shapes) for a total of 8 shapes. Also includes shape cards that ask students to write the number of sides for each shape. Great way to compare & contrast 2D shapes! Shapes included: circle, square, triangle, trapezoid, pentagon, oval, rectangle, & rhombus.
FINE MOTOR: Play Dough 2D Shapes: Includes 8 2D shape play dough mats that your child can use to build shapes out of play dough! This is great for fine motor development and practicing shapes. There is also a place where kids can trace the name of each shape. Shapes included: circle, square, triangle, trapezoid, pentagon, oval, rectangle, & rhombus.
GROSS MOTOR: Dance Your Way Across the Room: Just like Gerald danced in the book, your little one will dance across the room! They will choose a shoe number and then make it across the room in that many dance moves (ex: They leap 4 times to get to the other side of the room, or they take 10 small ballerina steps to make it there). Includes shoe numbers 0-20.
CRAFT: Giraffe Handprint: This Giraffe Handprint is the most adorable keepsake after reading this book! (*Supplies are not included.)
SNACK: Giraffe Cookies: These sweet & salty Giraffe Cookies are sure to give your little one a thrill! (*Supplies are not included.)
READING RESPONSE: Journal Writing Page & Bookmark: Your little one will have the opportunity to draw/write about the book & keep their special bookmark for years!
